The Bben 14″ laptop is a very low cost computer that looks like the price tag should be higher. Coming in a silver finish the laptop is only 13.7mm thick and weighs less than 1.8kg making this ideal for those on the go.
On the inside you get an Intel Apollo Lake Celeron N3450 processor, 4GB memory, 64GB drive and Windows 10 Home preinstalled.
For a slim computer it packs in a good selection of ports, with 2 USB 3 ports, a display port, a USB type C port and a micro SD card reader. It also supports M.2 2242 SSD upgrades up to 512GB via an expansion slot under the laptop.
After going through the Windows 10 setup process there was an initial problem with the Windows 10 license, Windows reported it was invalid. BBen quickly resolved this issue after it was raised, they’ve fed back that they are working to ensure this doesn’t happy for future customers.
The Bben lapbook comes with a 14″ 1920*1080 IPS display which is fine most of the time, although it can be a bit tricky to see in very bright sunlight.
If you’re a student at school/college/university you’ll find the keyboard is great for typing on. As you’d expect on a laptop there’s no numeric keypad and just below the keyboard is a large responsive trackpad, of course you can always add a mouse via the USB ports if you’d prefer.
It’s perfectly possible to get a gaming fix of lower end titles, such as Super Meat Boy, and the laptop even had a stab at Warframe, which is a lot more intensive. The game ran…but it wasn’t a great gaming experience, however considering the low cost it’s impressive the game was playable at all.
Battery life depends on what you’re up to, but overall it was found to be good, with it fairly quick to charge. The slim profile means this easily slips into a laptop bag, such as the STM Radial, leaving lots of room for the power cable and any accessories you might want to take with you.
The Bben 14″ laptop is a surprisingly good laptop considering the price. It looks great for not very much money, however you’ll have to accept a small amount of storage and limitations on playing high end games, but if you’re just looking for a good everyday laptop to type up your work, write your blogs, and stream video from Netflix or YouTube this is a great looking bit of kit.
