The I Amsterdam city card offers loads of inspiration if you’re looking to explore the cultural side of Amsterdam and are not sure where to start. It’s simple to use and will have easily paid for itself by the end of your trip.
The I Amsterdam City Card is a simple concept; You pre purchase a card for 24, 48 or 72 hours and it is activated the first time you make use of it. There are two parts to the card, a public transport pass allowing use of the excellent tram system and an attraction pass which will either get you into attractions for free or provide discount off entry prices or restaurant prices.
The card was purchased during the Expedia checkout purchase and cost:
- 24 hours: £31.69
- 48 hours: £39.61
- 72 hours: £47.54
You get a voucher to print off and this is redeemed when you arrive in Amsterdam. To ensure you know what attractions have signed up to the pass you are also provided an excellent pocket book containing maps with attraction locations, small descriptions of each attraction and if the attraction is free to enter or discounted.
Providing you pre-plan where you’d like to visit the card can very quickly pay for itself. The city is compact and very easy to get around meaning many attractions are within 5 – 10 minutes walking distance of each other. In one afternoon alone the card was used to gain free entry into a museum, a photo gallery and a manor house, which would’ve cost around £30 without the card.
You really get your moneys worth when you go to the big hitters in Amsterdam, the Van Gogh Museum, the Science Center NEMO, the Artis Royal Zoo and the included canal cruse. All free to enter with the card and all excellent value for money should you pay for them, so having free entry with the card makes this a must have for the trip.
There is no downside to the card, but the associated companion app needs a lot of work. It was slow and un-useful and was soon ditched for the excellent free trip advisor app which helped navigate around Amsterdam to each of the attractions.
If you’ve never been to Amsterdam before and want to explore the many attractions the city has to offer there is no better way than with the I Amsterdam City card.
