Billmonitor Website Review

Billmonitor Website

I discovered www.BillMonitor.com a couple of years ago and have made use of it ever since.  A simple, clean, interface makes it very easy to set up.  Ongoing contact keeps you updated and it’s become an invaluable tool for upgrading my mobile.

With a tagline of “invested by mathematicians in Oxford approved by Ofcom” you know this has some serious brainpower behind it.  The idea is a simple one, in the UK we’ve developed a mobile culture of paying for bundles of minutes, texts and data without really considering if we need the bundled amount.  This website aims to change that by making you aware of exactly what you use.

There are 2 options, the first is to self estimate how many minutes/text/data you use.  This option makes Billmonitor operate in much the same way as other comparison sites, returning a list of contracts that fit the chosen criteria.  While useful, it’s not what you come to this site for.

The second option asks you for your online mobile account management details.  This allows Billmonitor to log into your account and fetch your exact usage data via your online bills.  It then compares your actual usage to the bundle you’re on and will report on how suitable a pack it is for you.  This is hugely useful in identifying which service you use the most of: talk, text or data.  Armed with that information the site will then present the best mobile contracts to suit your usage.

It’s a brilliantly simple idea that must’ve been hugely complicated to implement.  The service then continues to monitor your account and will provide you with ongoing updates as to how well your current contract suits you.

Combine Billmonitor with a cashback service such as Quidco and not only can you cut your bills, you can get cashback while doing so!
