Mobile cameras have come a long way, the FeiyuTech Vimble 2 aims to enhance your mobile camera further with silky smooth video footage.
For those who like to use their mobile on the move the Vimble 2 offers a lot of great features for not a massive amount of money. It comes with a travel case that can hold everything you need.
As well as the Vimble 2 mobile gimbal you get a mini tripod which screws into the bottom of the Vimble 2, USB charging cable, mini charging cables that allow you to charge you mobile from the Vimble 2 (a microUSB, USB type C and lighting cable are included) and a wrist strap to help you avoid dropping the Vimble and your mobile.
Mobiles can be used in either landscape or portrait orientation and unlike a lot of mobile gimbals you’ve the option to extend the gimbal out as you would with a selfie stick.

The controls are on the handle and work via Bluetooth and an app on your mobile, so even when fully extended you can control your mobile actions remotely.
To try and keep things simple the number of buttons you press is kept to a minimum, with different functions being accessed by either pressing a button a set number of times or holding it down. They layout is OK but not good as the original DJI OSMO mobile and unfortunately can lead to you accidentally turning off the gimbal rather than stopping recording.
The companion app is available for both Android and iOS and it works well. It quickly pairs with the Vimble 2 and offer s a range of options, from taking photos and video to timelapses. You can also swap between the front/rear cameras without having to touch the mobile, handy if you have it fully extended.
Where it really shines is when videoing using a mobile with poor image stabilisation. There’s a noticeable difference when using the Vimble 2, especially with a budget mobile such as the Alcatel 3. Check out the side by side demonstration in the review video below.
Footage comes out looking a lot smoother, especially in high movement situations such as filming while jogging, see review video for example.
The mobile is held very firmly in place using a spring clamp, the holder was able to accept a OnePlus 6 with a case on, you may struggle with phones larger than this.
Since the DJI Osmo came out there has been an increase in competitive options, bringing prices down to half of what they were a few years ago. The Vimble 2 is a great option for those interested in a mobile gimbal providing you can master the controls.
