The Nokia Asha 302 is a simple, but stylish, QWERTY keyboard handset for those who want a basic mobile. The classic Nokia interface is easy to use and updates the familiar Nokia interface with social media integration. Although a little bulky by todays standards it’s still very comfortable in the hand.

Unpacking the Nokia Asha 302
The Nokia Asha 302 comes well packaged. Included is a charger, headphones, and USB cable. Worth noting this handset uses a classic Nokia charger, rather than the modern USB style found on a lot of modern mobiles.

Initial impressions were good; I was surprised by the quality of the phone and it feels well made and built to last. It’s very easy to get started, just pop the back case off, insert your SIM card and the battery, replace the back case and you’re done!

Powering up
Powering up and the 320×240-pixel resolution may not be earth shattering, but it does the job well. The screen is clear and the home screen well laid out to make good use of the small space available.

The QWERTY keyboard felt responsive if a little small (it seemed easy to mistype words). Such mistypes are likely down to a lack of experience using QWERTY keyboards and fans of this form factor will have no problems making use of it.

The handset has a 1GHz processor, which on such a basic phone means you get a responsive user interface with no noticeable slowdown when navigating the menus or opening applications. As expected at this price point the handset has a 3.2 megapixel camera which took decent photos. If purchasing make sure to also get a micro SD card as there is only 100MB internal memory available for use, not much if you want to take photos/videos/download apps/use as an music player.

While the software might not be as nice as modern Android/iOS/WP7 handsets its more than up to the task or providing a clean, easy to use mobile for calls, texts and a little bit extra if you feel like it. This is the sort of handset Nokia do best, it’s low cost without feeling cheap.

Good for: Texters/emailers who like a QWERTY keyboard, plus people that just want a simple phone for calls and texts.

Avoid if: You have fat fingers or want access to the latest apps your friends have.
