DESTEK 3D VR Virtual Reality Headset Review
The DESTEK 3D VR Virtual Reality Headset is a fairly low cost accessory that lets you use a smartphone as a screen within the VR headset.
It’s made from plastic, but has decent adjustable head straps meaning you don’t need to hold this to your face as you would with Google Cardboard.
Mobiles (between 4″ and 6″) are loaded into the DESTEK 3D VR Virtual Reality Headset via a front panel which drops forward and then locks shut via a magnet. Although this might sound a bit risky, after all you don’t want your expensive mobile flying out and dropping on the floor, the magnet is strong enough to keep things secure.
Note that you may need to remove your mobiles protective case to use it with this headset, chunky mobiles prevent the headset from being correctly closed.
Unlike Google Cardboard there isn’t a magnetic switch on the side so some apps can’t really be used by this without an additional controller. However, many VR apps now don’t require a controller or the Cardboard switch, for example the excellent InMind VR mini game.
The DESTEK 3D VR Virtual Reality Headset features foam padding around the eyes and overall this is a comfortable headset, although after 30 minutes or so you’ll likely need a break as this padding can get rather warm with it being pressed onto your face.
As well as the usual VR games and videos this is a good headset to combine with a drone camera. If the drone camera supports mobile viewing in a side by side format it means you can pop the headset on to see what the drone camera is seeing while in flight.
