The E50 Laser Distance Meter is a handy gadget to have if you do a lot of DIY or are in the building trade.
It comes with a nice case and both the case and the meter feel good quality. Fitting in the hand, the top half of the meter is a small LED screen, the bottom half contains the controls. On the back is a tripod mount which can be used with a spirit level on the top of the unit to take accurate measurements.
The controls give you a range of options: you can change the unit type (this can be changed after a reading has been taken), change if you start measurements from the front of the unit or the back and can change the type of measurements taken.
When taking a measurement you get a laser dot (handy if you have a cat!) to show what you’ll be taking reading from and to allow more precise measurements, for example the laser makes it clear if you are measuring from the back wall or the sticking out fireplace. You can take measurements up to 50 meters, so this is useful for both indoor and outdoor jobs you might be doing.
It’s worth spending time learning about the different modes as this is able to help with more than just a direct distance measurement, for example it can take several measurements to work out the volume of an area.
