The Huawei E3272 4G dongle is a very easy to use mobile broadband dongle, especially if you’ve a Windows laptop.
A fairly chunky bit of kit, the E3272 plugs into a spare USB port and takes a standard sized SIM card. It can make use of 2G, 3G or 4G signals to keep you online and so is suitable for home, office or on the go surfing.
Setup is very simple. The dongle is designed to give quick and easy access to the SIM card slot which makes it perfect for globe trotters who want to swap a UK SIM out in favor for a local SIM card for better data rates. Pop the cover back on, plug the dongle into a laptop and if you’ve not used it before it’ll get installed. Once completed the E3272 management web page opens up and giving you access to the settings of the SIM (e.g. add a pin lock, force it to use only a specific band such as 3G) and also allows you to send a text message via the dongle by typing on screen.
Internet access will be as good as your SIM card and network strength allows, with signal strength making a big difference to the speed. You can see in the video below a 2 bar strength 4G connection returned results of under 2Mbps, where as a 4 bar connection returned around 10Mbps! Interestingly when I ran the same test with the same SIM in my mobile I got slightly faster results, but not by much.
The E3272 dongle offers very easy access to internet on the go. Remember that a SIM card is required and a lot depends on signal strength and service you go for. Get a 4G SIM in a high strength 4G area and you should see some great speeds. Stick to 2G in a weak signal area and it’ll be like you’re on dial up again.
