The TaoTronics TT-CD01 Windscreen DVR is a small little unit that comes with everything you need to record footage while you’re driving.
It’s quick and easy to assemble, just pop an SD card in the back (you’ll need to buy one as it doesn’t come with one), attach the camera to the cradle, and attach the cradle to your windscreen in the desired position. The TT-CD01 is a very light unit, much lighter than a GPS, and so the cradle has no problem keeping it firmly attached to your windscreen. It has a release mechanism allowing you to store the unit either in your glove box or remove it from your vehicle.
The TT-CD01 has 4 IR LEDs on the front for recording at night, controls on both the left and right hand side of the unit and the SD card at the back. The small screen gives you the ability to change options on the unit, e.g. setting the time and date or adjusting if you want to record sound or not. If, like me, you sing in the car, but can’t sing very well, I’d recommend turning the record sound feature to off! It comes with a long power cord (why won’t car manufacturers give in and put some power on top of the dash for things like this?!) and a downside to this unit is that like GPS or mobile cradles the wire will clutter up your car.
As you can see from the below video the picture quality is fairly good considering the very low price. You won’t be making movies with this but for recording your trips it is perfectly suitable and it makes sense not to have a very high quality camera as that would just require more storage.
Reviewing the footage is as easy as plugging the card into your PC/laptop. You can even plug the unit in via it’s USB cable and it’ll act as a card reader. Rather than one big file you get a lot of smaller files and this means it’s very quick and easy to find the section of the trip you want to look at and keep.
