The TaoTronics TT-TF03 LED torch is the big brother of the recently reviewed TaoTronics 500 Lumen mini torch and offers up to 400 lumens more than it’s diminutive sibling. after opening the slightly tricky packaging the first impression was that the impressive design makes the TT-TF03 look like a light saber handle! It feels really solid and gives the impression this is a tough torch which will last.
Along with the TT-TF03 you get a high quality case which features a Velcro catch, clip attachment and belt loop. As with the torch the case feels of good quality.
The torch runs on non standard batteries, rather than AA you’ll need either 4 x CR123A batteries or 2 x 18650 batteries.
Operating the TT-TF03 is very easy, it’s complexly controlled via a single button on the end of the unit. This acts as both the mode selector and the on/off switch. At full power this is a bright torch and it’ll eat up your batteries after about 2 hours. You can easily change it to a lower power setting, medium will be fine for most uses and will give more like 6 – 7 hours of use.
Design with the outdoors in mind the TT-TF03 features some additional modes: SOS flashing, alarm, which is 3 bursts of light and strobe mode, which is constant flashing and you’ll need to be careful using around those with epilepsy.
There is no way to change the beam focus, but as you can see in the video below this isn’t really an issue as there is a wide focus point and a wide radius of lower intensity light.
The TT-TF03 LED torch is expensive, but it’s been designed to last and if you’re in need of a tough torch for the outdoors this is certainly one to consider.
