WiFi routers are great devices. They make our lives easier and allow us to access online services around the house, but not every router is created equal. Some routers are just plain bad.

It’s often the case that the router you get from your internet provide is a low cost model that does the job, however for many people these low cost devices can cause no end of frustration.

Fortunatly there are a huge range of options available, today I’m taking a look at the recently released AVM Fritz!Box 7590 AX.

What is AVM Fritzbox 7590 AX?

The 7590 AX represents the latest and greatest flagship offering from AVM. At the time of review, it is available to buy in the UK but you’ll need to purchase a power adapter as they don’t supply a UK plug.

As with previous AVM products, the Fritz!box 7590 AX has many advantages making it worth buying. It is easy to deploy and works with both cable and DSL, plus it offers DECT functionality built in.

The feature set means it can be used in a home setting or by a small business, and that’s exactly what I use AVM routers for as they work brilliantly with my VoIP lines from Clixoni.

It includes features such as parental controls, network monitoring, and a VPN server. In fact it’s about to get a big boost thanks to the roll out of the 7.50 Fritz!OS platform, which introduces over 150 new features and improvements including:

  • Better performance for Mesh Wi-Fi
  • VPN connections with WireGuard
  • More convenient telephony: FRITZ!Fon learns to speak and block unknown callers
  • More routine: more Smart Home possibilities with FRITZ!

The final point relates to using this to control other smart devices, which is something I’ve not been able to test as I don’t have any compatible equipment.

What are the features of this router?

1. 7590 AX Router Design

Following in the footsteps of previous models, the 7590 AX had a red and white colour scheme and is designed to sit horizontally on the floor, unlike the vertical 4060.

It’s an unobtrusive design due to its lack of external antennas, and it operates through both web interface and app.

It’s bigger than the previous version due to the inclusion of more air vents, I assume to keep the insides better ventilated due to the heat generated by the new hardware.

2. AVM Fritzbox 7590 AX Router: Performance

In testing I found the router offers very good performance, giving me the maximum upload and download speed for my internet connection (which is via Virgin Media) via a WiFi connection.

Its range is decent too, with full coverage achieved in a 3-bed semi-house.

The web based user interface is slick, quick and has way more options than you’ll ever need. The great thing is that after setup you won’t need to log in often, but when you do you benefit from a huge toolbox that let’s you set up things like guest networks, call routing, gives you network stats etc.

3. AVM Fritzbox 7590 AX Router: Connectivity

As with previous models, the 7590 AX gives you multiple LAN ports, plus thanks to the inbuilt telephone system it also allows you to plug in a telephone line.

You’re not restricted to physical lines, you can also use it with VoIP numbers, or use both at the same time. This is brilliant for a home office, it means you can have you house number ringing a house phone, and your business VoIP numer calling the DECT handset in your office, perhaps the Fritz!Fon C6.

4. AVM Fritzbox 7590 AX Router: User Interface

I’ve mentioned this already, but worth highlighting once more. The user interface of the AVM Fritzbox 7590 AX Router is a simple, intuitive design that provides users with easy access to its extensive range of options.

Having struggled for years with the horribly slower Virgin SuperHub 3, the Fritz!OS is a breath of fresh air.

:Is the AVM Fritzbox 7590 AX Router an Upgrade from the AVM FRITZ!Box 7490?

Looking for an upgrade from the AVM FRITZ!Box 7490? The AVM Fritzbox 7590 AX Router offers improved Wi-Fi performance and faster internet speeds. In this AVM FRITZ!Box 7490 review, users praise its reliable connectivity and easy setup, making it a top choice for those looking to enhance their home network.

Is it worth buying for your home or office network requirements?

With an impressive range of features, the 7590 AX is ideal for home power users and small offices. If you don’t need the physical phone line capability, I’d recommendd checking out the 4040, which has many of the same features (incliding Wi-Fi 6) except for handling physical phone lines.

With its Supervectoring and AVM Mesh technology, this router ensures top Wi-Fi speeds and superb coverage throughout your home or office.
