The Gatekeeper is a little dongle to help automate the process of locking and unlocking your PC or laptop.
Setting it up was relatively easy, you’ll need to download the companion software and follow the on screen instructions to get up and running, once done you have a range of options as to how the Gatekeeper is used.
I’ve been using this to automatically lock and unlock a Windows 10 laptop. As you can see in the review video, when I move away it locks, but the main issue I’ve had is that it’s really slow to unlock when I return. This is a major drawback to using the Gatekeeper, you don’t want to be waiting to log back into your computer, you want to just sit down and be in.
This also makes logging in on start up much slower than I’m use to as the laptop has to get to a stage where it can use the dongle before it can ‘see’ the Gatekeeper is there and it’s OK to unlock.
There have also been a couple of instances where, even though the Gatekeep has been near the laptop, the software has automatically locked the PC for no apparent reason.
While it’s not perfect, it is a good idea and one that could benefit someone who often forgets to lock their PC from prying eyes (e.g. laptop in a public space).
