The Nokia Lumia 630 is a Windows Phone toting budget mobile for those who aren’t fussed about premium design but who’d still like a little pocket powerhouse when out and about.

Despite it’s low cost you get a really nice 4.5 inch screen which is a much better size compared to the recently reviewed Lumia 530.

The Windows Phone operating system runs really well on this handset, even with live tiles updating information there isn’t any lag when navigating around.

The Windows Phone OS has always taken the view that it’s better to provide the most used features out of the box, and so you’ll find a range of apps and abilities waiting for you when you power up the Lumia 630 for the first time.

Being a budget handset the Lumia 630 very plastic and there isn’t a flash available with the camera, sensible decisions to keep the overall cost down.

Nokia 630 frontThe Lumia 630 does have a decent 5MP camera which is fine for occasionally taking snaps or videos.

Most impressively the Lumia 630 can be used as a GPS sat nav unit with completely free maps available to download. It’s not restricted to UK maps either, so if heading off on holiday you can grab a map of wherever you’re visiting (providing it’s not some remote area!) and then you don’t need to worry about data charges looking at maps on your mobile.

Out of the box the Lumia 630 didn’t support the Cortana personal assistant, but there is a workaround for this if you change a few settings so the phone thinks you’re a US user.  Once installed and setup Cortana had no problem understanding questions and generally performed really well.

The 4.5 inch screen is generally very good, with the Windows interface appearing colourful and inviting. However it does suffer from being difficult to see in direct sunlight.

If you’re looking for a good all round handset at a low price (very cheap to buy, generally free on contract) and don’t mind a lack of flash or it being a plastic phone this is a great handset to consider.
