Following on from the TECEVO S220 we have the S15 mini outdoor speaker.
This comes in a few colours, as you’ll see in the video the military olive green version was sent in for review.
It looks great, with a tough outdoor feel to it. There is a belt clip and a small loop allowing you to carry this around your wrist or hang it from something.
Sound quality is rather good for the low price. It packs in a decent enough bass and music quality was perfectly acceptable for a trip outdoors.
This Bluetooth 4 speaker is IPX4 rated and when contacted about reviewing the S15 three claims were made:
“You can splash water over it, throw it on the ground, and you can even drive a car over it while playing .”
As you’ll see in the review video these claims were put to the test!
The S15 handed water without a problem, continuing to play throughout the onslaught of water hitting it.
It didn’t do as well when it was thrown on the ground, it actually stopped playing and wouldn’t resume for a while. For reasons unknown it did come back to life and there was no noticeable difference in sound quality.
The final claim, that this could be driven over by a car, sounded like a bit of a stretch. While it feels tougher than some speakers it’s essentially plastic and it’s doubtful it’s been built to withstand the crushing weight of a Ford Fiesta. Surprisingly it actually sort of passed this test, while it did crack and sustain damage the speaker did continue to play music (slightly distorted music!).
So while it may not have survived completely intact the S15 certainly put in a good showing, remarkable given the low price.
