Can artificial intelligence help start a business?

2021 has seen a rapid development and deployment of online tools that tap in to the power of AI to help generate written content. Most use GPT-3 an open source language model trained on large amounts of text data.

Many of the tools developed focus on how AI can help speed up the article writing process, but some have developed a range of other useful tools, many of which produce better output than the blog writing elements.

One such tool is ContentBot, having played with it for a while I decided to put it to the test, if I had an idea for a business could it help me generate useful content to get my idea off the ground?

Dashboard

The website is very easy to use, when you log in head over to the templates section to view the tools on offer. The number of tools has increased since I first started using it and the creators continue to look for new and useful ways to use AI in content creation.

When you pick a tool you feed it an input. That information is fed to the AI along with information about the tool you are using, and a selection of results are provided back to you.

For this experiment I’m going to select a range of tools and pretend I’m starting a new web design and hosting company in Manchester.

There are usually 4 suggestions from each tool used, aside from the brand names I’ll provide what I think was the best suggestion as an example of the output.

Brand Name

This tool generates brand names and slogans based on a short description of the business and keywords.

WebLift – We pump new life into your web presence. (Alternatives: WebExpress | NetLift | Incline)

Zippy – The web design & hosting experts. (Alternatives: Flightless | Niche | Cloudy)

Delphi – A web design agency built on trust. (Alternatives: Triton | Iota | Lyra | Alpha)

Blast – Full service online presence. (Alternatives: FastBooster | Shift | Lamp)

I like the brand name WebLift and it’s slogan from these options. Note it just makes suggestions, you’d need to go and check if the name/URL are already in use.

If you already have a brand name there is a slogan only generator.

Brand Story

Taking the same inputs, a short description and keywords, this option outputs a brand story, very useful for website copy. For our made up WebLift company this was the best option it generated:

Our vision is all about transformation. We develop and launch your website to make sure it turns the people who visit our website into customers. Our partnership approach to web development creates a great experience from discovery to launch – one where we’re keenly attuned to every step along the way. We take your brief from “see what you can do” to “wow, look at what you’ve done for us”. This template was a little different to those used so far, asking for the following:

  • Sales purpose
  • Your Name
  • Your Company Name
  • Your Industry
  • Lead Name
  • Lead Company Name
  • Lead Industry
  • Lead Goals
  • Product Benefits

If you don’t know the lead name/company you can enter placeholder text. An example of the email suggestions for our web company is:

Website

Once you have a brand name, product and marketing material you’ll need a website people can visit.

While it can’t create an entire site it does do a good job of creating a mock-up landing page in different styles to see the suggested text in context. The generated text could easily be lifted and used on your real website.

Blogs

Finally if you did want to add some blog content you can gain ideas, outlines and even have the AI help write a post with you.

For example it suggested a blog post about the different type of websites and gave me the following article outline:

  • What are the different types of websites?
  • Personal websites
  •  Beauty websites
  •  Blogs
  •  Sports websites
  •  Company websites
  •  Why would you need a website?
  •  Start up reasons
  •  How to pick out a theme
  •  How to get started
  •  What can you do to keep your users interested
  •  What makes for a great website?

I completed all of this content generation in around 25 minutes. The content isn’t all useable right away, AI content always needs to be checked and tweaked, but as a starting point this little experiment demonstrates how an AI tool can dramatically speed up the ideation process.
