If it ain’t broke…
Following a similar pattern to previous years the show welcomed a huge number of people interested in all sorts of technology and had a wide range of companies on display. This year to help visitors navigate around there was a free GSL2015 app which listed exhibitors and included a floor plan. As usual as well as the main exhibition visitors could purchase tickets to the ‘Super Theatre’ to see a show put on by the Gadget Show presenters. As is usual with tradeshows there were some great deals to be had, visiting the Kitsound stall there was a customer taking advantage of a £10 reduction on the reviewed Kitsound Hive. Elsewhere similar discounts could be found on mini drones, kitchen pan sets, various Android gadgets and a wide range of speakers and headphones.
Dyson had a great stall showing off the wide range of products they offer (cleaners, heaters, coolers etc) as well as a small demo zone showing off the new Dyson robotic cleaner.
3D printers were out in force and while impressive to watch in action it’s still not clear why you’d actually want one in your home, especially when they’re retailing for well over £500.
The connected home was a major theme with a number of smart lighting systems on display (the most well known being Philips Hue) as well as connected security systems that allow for remote monitoring.
For those of a musical inclination there were laser instruments and a very techy Korg display.
One of the stand out gadgets was the Narrative Clio. a wearable automatic camera that captures photos throughout the day and presents them back as moments.
Gadget Show Live Super Theatre Show
The Gadget Show Live team again put on a live show which is a really great way to break up the day. The show was a big improvement on last years, which had felt a little stale and samey. New presenter Amy Williams looked very comfortable on stage in front of the huge audience and seemed like a better fit live than previous presenter Rachel Riley. Along with guest acts the presenters managed to fill the hour with an entertaining show, giving out a large number of prizes and readily interacting with the audience. A personal highlight of the show had to be Jason Bradbury revealing his personal new car. That might sound a little dull until the smoke clears and you realise it’s a highly accurate replica of the time travelling Delorean from the Back to the Future films. A really nice touch is the ‘working’ time circuits that allow him to pop in a destination time and then activate when he hits 88mph (or rather kph so he doesn’t get a ticket!).Was the DB Power Mini HD Sports Camera Featured at Gadget Show Live 2015?

Missing Heavyweights
Although there were some big names at the show there were a number of show regulars such as Microsoft, Sony and LG noticeably absent and it felt much smaller than previous years as a result. While this meant there was less well known brands to look at it also meant you had more time to browse some of the smaller exhibitors and check out some of the non-selling exhibitions. The excellent history of computing area proved to be one such area that was very popular, it was filled with a huge range of working computers from the BBC Micro to the Amiga 1200 and on to the PlayStation.
There was also a lot of personal transportation gadgetry available, from traditional skateboards and bikes to fold up scooters and gyroscope wheels.
Overall while it felt smaller than last years even The Gadget Show Live was still a brilliant day out and a great look at both future and past technology.
