The MVPower HD WiFi IP Camera is a low cost and good looking WiFi camera that can record the goings on it sees via an SD card.

The camera is made of plastic, but looks rather cool. It’s a small camera which, you can see in the video, has a good range of rotation to get it set up with the perfect view.

Note this isn’t a pan/tilt camera, once set up there isn’t any way of remotely adjusting what the camera is looking at.

As well as a power supply this also comes with a backplate and a set of screws/wall plugs for wall mounting this. If you’d rather not use WiFi there is also a USB to Ethernet adapter allowing this to work over your wired network.

Setup was OK, although it took a while as during the first attempt to set up this camera the app, COT Pro, attempting to get the MVPower camera using a 5G WiFi network, which doesn’t appear to be one it’s compatible with. When the phone was connected to a 2.4G WiFi network and the setup run again the camera connected first time without any issue.

The app allows you to update the camera firmware, view a live stream from the camera, make use of the speakers built into the camera and view recordings held on the SD card in the camera (not supplied, you’ll need to provide one). There is also a desktop viewer if you’d rather use a PC.

You will have to create an account to make use of the software, if you take a look at reviews of the app there are some negative ones suggesting various issues, worth noting the only issue encountered has been the problem setting up wifi.

Recordings are split into 30 minute blocks so it’s easy to find the relevant recording if you’ve a general idea of the time something happened. Annoyingly it doesn’t record in a standard format most programs can open (a .av file), you’ll need to get a special viewer which I don’t really see the point in, it would be much better if the files were a standard video format.

Picture quality is good and this can switch to night vision mode automatically, meaning you’ll be able to see what’s going on 24 hours a day.

Low cost security camera, but does the job well.
