The Sony Xperia C4 is a mid range mobile that share the same look and feel as the top end Sony handsets, but has a plastic back rather than the premium backs found on top end devices.
The Xperia C4 gets a 5.5″ screen which does a good job across a range of tasks, web surfing, watching videos or playing games. Plus the good size means your hands won’t get in the way of the action on this handset.
It feels comfortable to hold and isn’t too big a mobile. You get to the the SIM card and memory card slot via a side panel, the back and battery aren’t removable.
Sony have added their own skin on top of Android 5.0 and if you’ve used a Sony handset before you’ll be on familiar ground with the Xperia C4. There are additional Sony apps pre-installed, some are useful, some you’ll ignore, but overall it’s a good looking skin that gives the phone a more premium feel over other Android mobiles.
First impressions were very good, so it was disappointing that gameplay on the Xperia C4 turned out to be something of a mixed bag. Asphelt8 proved to be a bit too much for the C4, while playable it wasn’t as smooth as on the recently tested, and much cheaper, Motorola Moto E. However, other games, such as Modern Combat 5, ran fine.
The camera is very good and it’s great to see a dedicated camera button on the side (or top when held landscape). The Xperia C4 has 13MP camera on the back and a 5MP camera on the front for all your selfie lovers. What’s really interesting is the range of camera apps you get, with a personal favourite being the AR mode that allows you to see dinosaurs stomping around your garden.
This is a great mid range mobile that has a lot to offer you, it’s just a pity it struggled to impress when playing games. However, if you’re not a gamplayer this shouldn’t be an issue for you.
