The Umi Emax is likely not a mobile you’re heard of, and indeed when sent for review expectations were low after poor showings from other unknown manufacturers.
Things start well, the Umi Emax is a nice looking mobile, it has a 5.5″ screen but isn’t heavy in the hand and is easy to hold and use.
As well as the usual connections dotted around the case you’ll find the Umi Emax can accept not one, but two, SIM cards, great if you like to travel and want to use a local SIM card for the data connection.
The large screen makes the Umi Emax good for game playing, you won’t find fingers and thumbs getting int he way of the action, however despite having an octo-core processor games run just OK, you can see a racing game in the video is perfectly playable but is not as silky smooth as other handsets at a lower price deliver.
Photos are also just OK, you get two cameras, a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front facing camera and unfortunately the focus lets the Umi Emax down, but once you get the hand of it the camera is perfectly usable and much better than some other low cost mobiles tested.
While it might not have the latest version of Android, it does have a very interesting feature not seen before, it comes pre-rooted. This might not mean anything to you, and if it doesn’t don’t worry about it and feel free to skip ahead.
The screen came with a screen protector already on, note that this is very reflective and makes the screen very difficult to see when in sunlight, but in all other situations the screen looks fine.
So while there are a few areas that could be improved overall this is a good mobile for the price, especially if you plan on rooting it as it’s been done for you
