The Xtreamer Wonder aims to offer a convenient hassle free way of getting a wide range of media sources onto your TV.

Unlike recently tested Android boxes the Wonder isn’t a the usual puck shape, instead opting for an arched, slightly larger, design.

There isn’t anything other than a couple of lights on the front.  Around one side are 3 USB ports and around the back are the remaining connections for HDMI, power, Ethernet and a memory card slot.

There is a small problem with the overhanging lip design and the Ethernet port.  When you plug your Ethernet cable in the release mechanism is on top, directly under the plastic lip, meaning you can’t easily remove the cable without a flat object, such as a knife, to press the release catch down.  This won’t be a problem if you’re using wifi, or not moving it around much, but something to keep in mind if you ever need to release the cable.

On the inside the box is powered by a quad core processor and Android 4.4.

Included in the box is an air mouse remote.  This comes with a USB dongle to plug into one of the USB ports and gives you a very simple way of controlling the on screen pointer.

Xtreamer Wonder Console

Starting the Wonder up and you’re first presented with the Android 4.4 KitKat logo, the the Xtreamer logo and finally the rather nice menu system.

Manufacturers have taken a wide range of approaches to the menu system on Android boxes and the Wonder menu is certainly the slickest looking menu tested to date.  It offers nice large icons on screen, it scrolls without any lag and it’s very intuitive.

At first it might appear that the Wonder has come with lots of apps pre-installed, however that’s not the case.  Many of the icons are actually shortcuts to the install files (as indicated by a small blue arrow on the icon), click on the icon and the install file will be downloaded and installed.

In most cases this worked without any issues, however for some apps the installation process didn’t start and there was a ‘package parsing’ and nothing happened.  That tended to be on unfamiliar apps so it wasn’t much of a loss, although it does mean you’re left with unusable shortcuts on the menu.

Video streaming works perfectly, the box is ideal for those who use Netflix, XBMC etc as the air mouse makes menu selection a nicer experience than having to use directional keys.

Being Android the range of apps combined with the USB ports mean you can use this box for a wide range of activities.  for example if you plug in a keyboard and download Google Docs you’ve got a mini PC for writing, spreadsheets, presentations etc.

If you’re looking for something a little more exciting you can plug in a controller (in the video below you’ll see an Xbox 360 wireless adapter) and fire up a game or two.  All the games tested ran perfectly and once setup (as many games aren’t natively mapped to the controller) worked brilliantly, no lag or stuttering, this is a great little Android games console.

With Razor planning on releasing software to stream PC games to Android boxes running Android 5 it would be brilliant if the Wonder gets updated the later version, this could be the ideal box to stream PC games to if Xtreamer can release an update.

The Xtreamer Wonder is such a versatile little console you’ll find you can do a lot with it and it’s worth taking some time to look at the suggested apps as there are likely to be a number you’ve not heard of that are very good.  It’s just let down by odd Ethernet port/overhanging lip design and that a number of suggested apps threw errors when trying to install.

Available from the manufacturer, the Xtreamer is available with free shipping worldwide, but do be aware that VAT/local taxes are not included and so you may have to pay a small amount upon delivery.

Great review Mark as usual, I really appreciate your work very much, this review helped take a final decision on purchasing this device over Evolveo and other devices.
I got few questions Mark I hope you can manage to help with feedback on that:

Q1- I saw your other review on “Xtreamer multi-console” having some pre installed emulaters for retro sony Play station & n64 etc.. On the device. Doese this device “xtreamer wonder” also come with emulators? If not can we install them? does xtreamer company still provide these apps on the new device?

Q2- about connectivity, can we use those wireless “Bluetooth” mini keyboards with trakpads on the device, or it should be 2.4Gh with dungle stick to sub? Can we use the Evolveo fly motion mouse keyboard on this device?

Q3- connecting gamepads controllers! Can we connect old pc game pads, wired Logitech or Speed link usb cable game pads? Or only game pads are those of Xbox, Sony an MOGA wireless controllers ?!

Q4- I never played android games on mini pc android systems over TV like xtreamer, do they support multiple players with multiple controllers and split screen like in racing games in gaming consoles ? Or there aren’t any games designed like that, such as asphalt probably ?

I tried to ask these questions to some professionals at the biggest electronic store in my area “Electro World” but unfortunately they didn’t have any satisfying knowledge.

Thank you again Mark, and sorry for the long listed questions, but you are my last hope of someone knowledgable enough to help me, after my disappointing visit with electronic store pros 😀

    Hello,

Thanks for the feedback and the questions, I’m sure others will be interested in the answers.

With this being an Android console you could install whatever Android software you like, so anything you’ve seen on other consoles can be installed on this. You’ve access to the Play store so it’s quick and easy to grab extra software when required, so if you’re interested specifically in retro gaming that shouldn’t be a problem. The Sonic game wasn’t run via an emulator, it was an Android install.

As I was using the Sumvision Air Mouse I haven’t tested any Bluetooth keyboards with this, they’d be a step back from the Air Mouse, however the Wonder does have Bluetooth so I don’t see why they wouldn’t work. I couldn’t answer about the Evolveo as I don’t have one to test, but assuming it works with other Android consoles I don’t see why it wouldn’t work with the Wonder.

I’ve only tested the Xbox pads as that’s the only controller I have. As with the Evolveo, if you can use them on other Android consoles I see no reason why they wouldn’t work with this one. Google will be your friend for that question.

The multiplayer game question is a good one and not one I can give you an answer for as I’ve never seen an Android game designed to be played split screen. If you think about it most Android games as designed for mobiles/tablets, so split screen wouldn’t work. The Xbox dongle I have supports up to 4 controllers I think, so that shouldn’t be an issue, I just don’t think there are many games designed with multiplayer sames screen action in mind.

    Hope that helps.
