The 1byone Belt-Drive 3-Speed Portable Stereo Turntable is a cool looking portable turntable unit with built in speakers, meaning once it’s plugged in all you need to add is the music.
A range of colours are available, you’ll see the nice blue in the video below. There is a catch on the front allowing this to be closed and carried/stored as a case, although the designers appear to have forgotten the power cable needs to go somewhere and haven’t included somewhere to easily store it. The roof could’ve easily had a small net pouch to hold the plug and it’s rather annoying something so obviously designed to be portable has such an oversight.
As a vinyl novice the 1byone Portable Turntable was very easy to use. It has a speed selector on the right (33, 45, or 78) as well as an auto stop feature. There is an arm lifter and as you move the arm over the turntable it automatically starts turning. You don’t need to worry about dropping the arm too quickly, it has a soft landing mechanism.
On the front are a couple of speakers which are OK but rather tinny and not a set you want to turn up loud, they do the job for general background music. Around the side are connectors allowing you to use headphones or an external speaker setup. This was tested with external speakers and while the overall quality was OK, the sound still seemed to lack bass and seem a little on the tinny side.
The 1byone Belt-Drive 3-Speed Portable Stereo Turntable is a fun product for those who want a trip down memory lane. It looks great and certainly attracted a lot of attention and positive comments, be a fun thing to have at a garden party, and if it gets you into vinyl it could be a stepping stone to a higher quality turntable.
