The Kitvision Safeguard 360 HD Wireless Home Security Camera is an indoor camera designed to help you monitor activity around the house.

The unit itself is very nicely finished, it’s made from a white glossy plastic, has infrared LEDs for enhanced night vision, two way audio and has the ability to both pan and tilt.

The base of the Safeguard 360 has been designed to either sit on something (e.g. a bookshelf) or be attached too something (e.g. a wall or ceiling).  There is a mounting bracket included along with some screws and this bracket also happens to keep the power wire tidy so you’ll likely use it even if popping this onto a shelf.

You get a good length power cable with this, needed if you plan on wall mounting.

Setup was straightforward and is managed by an app (the Android version was used).  Following the on screen instructions will have you to setting up an iSecurity+ account, sorting out the cameras WiFi access and attaching the camera to your account.  This account allows you to log in to the camera via either the app or via the iSecurity website.

Accessing via the app allows you to monitor the Safeguard 360 in real time as well as control the pan/tilt functions.  These functions can be a little laggy and occasionally you’ll need to send the command a couple of times before the camera actually moves.  The app also allows you to take a picture or record the live stream to your mobile, this is stored as a file on your mobile allowing you to watch/share footage (including sound if you’ve set the microphone to on).

Out of the box the app live stream recording is the only recording available and so the camera is useful for live monitoring only, there isn’t any memory card slot or on-board recording functionality allowing you to go back and see what happened at a certain time.

If you want additional recording you’ll need to purchase an additional monthly subscription, $9.99 per month at the time of review for 14 days of video storage.  Before taking the plunge you can opt to try the service free of charge for a month and it was nice to see you don’t need to enter any credit card details to take advantage of this offer, so no need to remember to cancel the service at the end of the trial if you’re not interested in paying for it.

The paid for service unlocks event recording, when the camera detects motion it’ll record it to the iSecurity+ servers.  One huge benefit this has over recording to local memory is that if anything happens to the camera the footage is stored offsite, so you’ll always have access to footage.  The iSecurity+ website is easy to use and make it easy to check footage for certain days/times, but if you want to check things on the go the same events are available to view via the mobile app.

The Kitvision safeguard is a good all round package for those looking for a simple solution to home monitoring.  Controls can be a little laggy and it would’ve been good to have the option to record locally rather than having to use a subscription service, but at least the service is very slick and easy to use.
