Edifier M1380 Home Audio Speaker System Review
The Edifier M1380 is a low cost 2.1 speaker system that you can use with your TV or PC to upgrade from basic speakers.
The 2 stereo speakers are nicely styled, they come on little mounts which aren’t removable, they’re designed to sit on a desk or cabinet next to a TV rather than be wall mounted.
These each have a single cable that plugs into the main base unit and they’re colour coded so you know which is left and which is right.
You plug the entire system into your source (e.g. TV or PC) via a standard headphone jack. This is connected to the speakers via a volume remote which is hardwired in. This has a little mute button on it as well as a headphone socket.
Note that this main lead is hardwired into the speaker, it can’t be removed or replaced.
Setup only takes a few minutes and once up and running the result was an immediate improvement over my TVs speakers. There was much clearer stereo separation, a better (but not pounding) bass, and everything just sounded better than when using TV speakers.
With this having a standard headphone jack these can also be used with mobiles to play music, although it’s a bit of a pain to plug/unplug different items, it’s really designed to plug into a single item and be used with just that item.
Volume is decent and overall sound quality is very good considering the low price, but keep in mind if using with a TV this isn’t as tidy a solution as a soundbar would be due to the amount of wires involved.
