The Inateck 3 port USB 3 hub and hard drive enclosure is a simple little multi purpose peripheral which can be used to extend your storage as well as USB 3 capabilities.
Made from plastic the hub section sits at the end of the device with the hard disk enclosure taking up most of the space. It supports 2.5″ SATA I/II/III drives, either HDD or SSD, up to 3TB. There is a dedicated power switch for the drive so you can use the 3 USB ports without having the drive on.
Setup was very easy, the case is toolless so you just pop the top offer, fit the drive, and close up the case and you’re done! There are a number of cables included, one to power it (a USB to round tip) and one to connect it to your PC/laptop. When you plug in additional devices into the hub (remember you can plug in 3 things at the same time) it does mean you’ll have rather a lot of wires.
The read/write speed you get will depend on a number of factors, are you connecting via a USB 3 port on your PC/laptop, are you using a HDD or faster SSD etc. This performs well and is a great a great way of adding additional storage space to a laptop with a small drive.
The three additional USB 3 ports are a bonus, although if you are powering this with your laptop you actually only gain one extra port as two of the existing ports will be taken up with cables to this hub. To resolve this you’ll need to use a USB power adapter (the sort you get with a mobile), freeing you up from using two USB ports on your laptop.
